Description
This developer portal was originally a digital product created by Genentech internally, but needed a design overhaul and rebuild due to obstacles and complexities posed by Genentech’s enterprise CRM technology and outside of their expertise. As a result, Genentech and its partner reached out out to us (as we had the right experience and expertise with these kinds of portals and technologies) to provide the improvements they were looking for.
Challenge
The primary challenge with this project was that although the application was already built, there were no documented requirements or specifications for the solution and there was little to no expertise within the customer’s organization to provide any technical knowledge of pre-existing solution. The only knowledge provided by the client was that some functions worked, some didn’t and there was little to no expertise internally with the enterprise CRM that was required to be used.
From a business standpoint stakeholders knew conceptually what the end product should look like and how it should function, however when handed over there were no requirements documentation or technical specifications provided, only a partially built system that needed to be completed.
We utilized our various investigative activities to first conduct functional and code audits. We then moved into discovery to workshop activities with the client to define the application pain points and then finally further investigated tech stack analysis to identify deficiencies, limitations and opportunities for the application overhaul.
Since we realized there were no documented requirements, application specifications or customer technical knowledge of the application under the hood, we decided to use the current application as a high level working model specification to redesign, rebuild, and integrate the application properly and in a fully optimized fashion to deliver the originally envisioned application.

The redesign and rebuild was executed in a fully collaborative and agile fashion that enabled us to align and respond to the clients’ business teams needs while keeping the user centric best practices targeted and in view.

Impact
The outcome of this project produced a completely redesigned and rebuilt Integration Marketplace enabling healthcare focused software companies to use HL7 FHIR based API’s to securely connect clinical practices with Genentech backend systems. This streamlined integration enables clinicians to:

- Reduces data-related errors
- Improves the patient experience without disrupting well established workflows.
