A new verification process is reportedly being tested by Twitter for its Blue subscribers. The users will now have to submit a government ID along with a selfie to verify their Twitter account.
Twitter is reportedly testing a new verification process for its Twitter Blue subscribers that involves submitting a government ID.
The feature was discovered in Twitter’s code by product intelligence firm Watchful.ai and is said to be in testing in the U.S. However, it is unclear whether any Twitter users are currently seeing the feature.
The new verification process would require users to submit a photo of their government-issued ID and a selfie to verify their Twitter account. If publicly launched, this new feature of Twitter could help fight against impersonation on the platform. Although Twitter's revamped verification system requires a phone number, it has still been vulnerable to the threat of impersonation.
Adding a photo ID and selfie requirement to Twitter Blue’s verification process could provide more security against impersonation. It is important to note that even if a user is verified, it doesn't necessarily indicate that they are who they say they are. Twitter has not yet commented on the new feature.
