OpenAI is officially preparing to phase out GPT-4.5, its most powerful AI model to date, from the API! This marks a significant shift in the company’s product strategy as it looks ahead to more advanced models in its lineup.
Introduced as a bridge between GPT-4 and the long-anticipated GPT-5, GPT-4.5 was OpenAI’s largest and most capable model in production. It powered a range of applications across industries—from coding assistants to customer support chatbots—thanks to its improved reasoning, longer context window, and enhanced performance across complex tasks.
However, OpenAI is now making it clear: GPT-4.5’s time in the spotlight is coming to a close.
