Microsoft Unlocks Copilot’s Premium AI Features for Free

Date: February 26, 2025

Microsoft makes Copilot’s Voice and Think Deeper features free, expanding AI accessibility while keeping premium perks for Copilot Pro subscribers.

Microsoft is making a big push for AI accessibility, announcing that Copilot’s premium Voice and Think Deeper features are now free for all users. The move removes usage restrictions and gives people unlimited access to some of Copilot’s most advanced AI tools—previously available only with a paid subscription.

What’s Changing?

If you’ve used Microsoft Copilot Pro, you might already be familiar with Voice, which lets users converse with the AI assistant in real-time. Thus making interactions more natural and hands-free. Then there’s Think Deeper, powered by OpenAI’s o1 reasoning model, which enables Copilot to deliver more in-depth, logical, and comprehensive responses to complex questions.

Previously, free users had limited access to both features—but that’s no longer the case. Starting today, these AI tools are available without restrictions.

Microsoft explained the reasoning behind this decision in a blog post:

“We are working hard to scale unlimited access to advanced features to as many people as possible, as quickly as possible.”

Is There a Catch?

Not really, but Microsoft isn’t ruling out some potential hiccups. The company cautioned that demand could surge. If that happens, some users might experience temporary delays or interruptions during peak times. If usage spikes or security risks arise, there is a chance that Microsoft may temporarily throttle access to maintain service quality.

It’s worth noting you may experience delays or interruptions during periods of high demand or if we detect security concerns, misuse or other violations of the Copilot Terms.

That said, the company is betting that making AI more widely available will benefit both users and the Copilot ecosystem in the long run.

What About Copilot Pro?

If these features are now free, why would anyone still pay for Copilot Pro?

Microsoft is keeping Copilot Pro at $20 per month, but it comes with perks like:

  • Priority access to AI models during peak usage times.
  • Early access to new AI features before free-tier users.
  • Exclusive AI functionality within Microsoft 365 apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

In other words, power users and businesses may still find value in paying for the Pro version.

Two years after first integrating Copilot into Bing, Microsoft is now making some of its most powerful AI tools free for everyone—a clear sign that it sees AI as a fundamental tool, not just a premium service.
