Microsoft Teams gets major improvements, promising faster speeds and simplified usability. The app is now 2x faster and consumes 50% less memory and 70% less disk space
Microsoft Teams has undergone a major overhaul, promising faster speeds and simplified usability.
The new Teams client has been built from scratch and includes Microsoft’s Edge WebView2 technology, a move to the React JavaScript library, and an improved Fluent design language. Microsoft has ditched the Electron foundations of Teams, meaning reduced memory usage and a lowered disk footprint, while React has been a better fit for performance characteristics and benchmarking results.
The app is 2x faster while using 50% fewer resources and consumes 50% less memory and 70% less disk space, making it significantly more efficient than its predecessor. The redesign also includes a visual refresh to better match Windows 11, with a native canvas and less of the purple Teams color.
AI-powered video filters and group profile pictures are also among the new features. Microsoft’s new Teams client is available in preview mode, with a full roll-out expected later this year.
