According to recent reports, Google laid off hundreds of employees across multiple departments as part of its restructuring strategy.
The Information cited a Google spokesperson in its latest report stating that the tech giant laid off hundreds of employees on Thursday. These folks were working on Android projects, Pixel Phones, and the Chrome browser.
Google had reportedly offered a buyout option to its employees, after which these layoffs were executed.
The official Spokesperson of Google stated in a conversation with The Information:
"Since combining the Platforms and Devices teams last year, we’ve focused on becoming more nimble and operating more effectively, and this included making some job reductions in addition to the voluntary exit program that we offered in January."
This isn’t the first time that Google has laid off employees in bulk.
In almost a year, Google has laid off a large portion of employees as well. These folks were spread around multiple departments like Python, Global Cloud Units, etc.
The latest update has already triggered a massive storm of discussions and speculations on social media platforms like Reddit and Instagram despite the official confirmation of the proposed buyout.
Anyway, this is probably a developing story. So, if there’s more to come, we will keep you in the loop with it.
