Marvel Entertainment chairman Isaac "Ike" Perlmutter has been laid off by Disney. He has been with Marvel since 1993 and was also involved in several scandals
Disney has recently announced that it is laying off Marvel Entertainment chairman Isaac "Ike" Perlmutter, as part of its ongoing layoffs that are affecting 7,000 workers.
Perlmutter, who has been with Marvel since 1993 and joined Disney when it acquired the studio in 2009, is a controversial figure. During his 30-year tenure at Marvel, he has been accused of holding back the inclusion of women and people of color in the studio's films.
In addition, he has been involved in various scandals, including allegedly bribing a New York police officer and influencing the Department of Veterans Affairs. Despite being booted from Marvel Studios in 2015, Perlmutter was later given a new role as chair of Marvel's consumer products, which came as a relief to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.
However, he is now out of the company, as Disney has decided to fold the Marvel Entertainment business within Marvel Studios, eliminating his job as a result. While Perlmutter's departure may be seen as a good thing by some, others may view it as a loss of a key figure who played a significant role in shaping the Marvel Universe.
Regardless of one's opinion, it is clear that Disney is making significant changes within the company, as it has also axed its entire metaverse team and laid off executives at Hulu, Freeform, and FX. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
