Apple's iOS 18.4 Beta Brings AI-Powered App Review Summaries to the App Store

Apple's iOS 18.4 Beta Brings AI-Powered App Review Summaries to the App Store

Date: March 06, 2025

Apple's iOS 18.4 beta introduces AI-generated review summaries, making it easier for users to quickly grasp app feedback in the App Store.

Apple is making app discovery easier with a new AI-powered feature in iOS 18.4. The latest beta introduces AI-generated 'review summaries' in the App Store. It offers users a quick way to gauge an app's reputation without scrolling through endless reviews.

The feature, now live for U.S. users on the App Store, analyzes user feedback and condenses it into a brief, structured summary. It starts with the positives before listing common complaints, ensuring a balanced view. Apple says these summaries will be refreshed regularly to reflect the latest user sentiment.

Making Reviews More Digestible

Scrolling through hundreds of app reviews can be overwhelming. Apple's solution? Let AI do the heavy lifting. By summarizing key insights from user reviews, Apple hopes to make it easier for customers to decide whether an app is worth their time.

For now, the feature is only available for apps and games with a significant number of reviews and is limited to English. Apple, however, plans to expand it to more regions and languages later this year.

A Step Towards Smarter Review Systems

Apple has never been a company that is quick to adopt the latest tech advancements. Similarly, while it is an advancement, it is not unique. Amazon rolled out similar review highlights in 2023, and Yelp recently introduced AI-powered review filters.

Nevertheless, one thing is for sure. Companies are leveraging AI to make online reviews more useful and digestible.

But what if the AI gets it wrong? Apple has put safeguards in place. Users can flag inaccurate summaries, and developers can report any misleading AI-generated insights all through App Store Connect.

The feature, available now for beta testers running iOS 18.4 beta 2 and iPadOS 18.4 beta 2, is expected to roll out to the general public in April. When it does, users across the U.S. will see neatly packaged summaries highlighting both positive and negative themes from app reviews.

With AI becoming more embedded in everyday tech experiences, Apple's move is a signal that they are shifting toward smarter, more intuitive app discovery. Whether this improves the way users interact with the App Store remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—AI is reshaping how we consume information, one summary at a time.
