Ahrefs embraces the AI era with a bold rebrand to AI-hrefs, but it suspiciously seems like an April Fool’s joke.
On April 1st, Ahrefs — the go-to SEO platform for marketers worldwide — revealed a surprising twist: it’s now called AI-hrefs.
Well… not really.
The announcement, made via a tweet laced with playful sarcasm, could be part April Fool’s joke and part commentary on the AI-fueled state of modern marketing. But underneath the humor, it cleverly spotlighted the company’s real push toward AI-integrated tools.
“Hot new features, hot new brand! ...because “Ahrefs” was too easy to pronounce,” the company wrote in a post.
Today Ahrefs is re-branding to AI-hrefs!

AI-hrefs Agent™: Ready to answer all your SEO questions with confidently vague and non-committal "it depends."

Alongside the rebrand, Ahrefs (sorry, AI-hrefs) introduced a series of fictional features that hilariously mirror the AI buzz taking over tech headlines:
For long-time Ahrefs users, the post hit all the right notes — funny, relatable, and surprisingly reflective of current industry chaos.
But here’s the kicker: while the rebrand is a joke, the AI part? That’s very real.
Over the past year, Ahrefs has quietly rolled out serious AI capabilities. The AI Content Grader, launched in early 2024, evaluates how well your content covers a topic compared to top-ranking competitors. Meanwhile, the AI Overview Tracker gives SEOs visibility into Google's AI-generated search answers — a feature that's becoming increasingly critical as traditional rankings blur.
The satirical rebrand, then, isn’t just a gag — it’s a smart piece of brand commentary. As companies scramble to bolt “AI” onto everything, Ahrefs is calling it out with sharp wit and a confident nod to its own innovations.
