My Little Plastic Footprint
The menace of plastic is fast guzzling everything that is coming in its way. Be it the oceans or the living beings, you can easily find traces of plastic in every possible place on this earth.
As per the Ellen McArthur Foundation, there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans by 2050.
Here are some alarming facts that you need to know before buying your next plastic product:
- By 2050, the plastic build up will choke marine life and there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish.
- Half of the plastic we use every day is thrown away within 20 minutes of its use.
- We only recycle 9% of the plastic waste we generate.
- Victor Vescovo, a Dallas based businessman, found a plastic bag in the Mariana Trench, at 35,849 feet, the deepest natural trench in the world.
Many nations, organizations, and individuals have already volunteered in the race to take punitive action to cut down on plastic waste.
In one such instance, Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Canada, took a pledge to ban single-use plastics by 2021.
Trudeau said,
“You’ve all heard the stories and seen the photos. To be honest, as a dad, it is tough trying to explain this to my kids. How do you explain dead whales washing up on beaches across the world, their stomachs jam-packed with plastic bags? How do I tell them that against all the odds, you will find plastic at the very deepest point in the Pacific Ocean?”
In an effort to help reduce the usage of plastics, My Little Plastic Footprint was launched.
