In what seems to be a mastermind move, a Delhi-based app developer predicted the merger of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar.
A Delhi-based app developer recently bought a domain, thinking it would provide him with the necessary monetary support for his Cambridge education. The domain he bought was JioHotstar, after predicting the name Reliance would seek after its recent JioCinema and Disney+ Hoststar merger.
The company posted that there will only be one website to host all the content across both platforms, and JioHotstar seems to be the most accurate name for the new platform. With the domain booked already, the developer sought a payment of £93,345 to sell the domain to the industry giant.
He posted his remuneration request on the official www.jiohotstar.com website with a detailed notice on why he wanted the money, and how such a big industry conglomerate can help fulfill his dream.
“In 2021, I was working on a project that was selected for the Cambridge University Accelerate program. It was a transformational experience for me. I couldn't crack IIT and always wanted to learn from the best, coming from a Tier-II college, being selected for this program was an incredibly valuable and practical experience. The startup program taught me many valuable lessons and provided insights into the ins and outs of startups for free, which was amazing. However, it was limited in scope – after all it was just a startup program. Cambridge also offers a full degree program in entrepreneurship, which I've always dreamed of pursuing but could never afford. It's Cambridge, quite expensive. When I saw this domain become available, I felt things might just fall into place. My intention of buying this domain was simple: if this merger happens, I might be able to fulfill my dream of studying at Cambridge,” his note stated.
An executive from Reliance Ambujesh Yadav Ji, AVP, Commercials, responded, denying the request and representing the EMBA program's tuition fees. According to the updated information posted by the developer, Reliance is likely heading to take legal action. The developer has also requested that people aware of the matter provide any professional legal advice or help. Considering the fact that he bought the domain before JioHotstar existed and due to the lack of a registered trademark during the domain purchase period, the developer may succeed in his endeavor. However, the power of Reliance Industries can take the interaction in any way it deems fit for the business.
