Meta may soon be able to crack Google’s search engine dominance as it builds its proprietary AI-powered search engine.
Meta Platforms is developing a new Artificial Intelligence-powered search engine to enhance its internal capabilities and reduce its reliance on external providers. The company's efforts focus on reducing its dependency on Alphabet’s Google and Microsoft’s Bing to show users search results for news, stocks, and other reports.
With rapid upgrades on Meta AI, the parent company envisions a complete assistance solution for its ecosystem. A company spokesperson connected with the undergoing development revealed that the AI-powered search engine feature will work across all Meta AI integrations, including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook.
According to recent user trends, the new generation of online searchers has already begun shifting from traditional search methods on Google to social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. TikTok was the first emerging search engine alternative to Google, which demonstrated the social media platform’s potential to provide search results in a much more engaging way to its users.
With the boom of genAI, Meta is advancing towards a more self-reliant capability development within its offerings. Compared to traditional search engines like Google and Bing, AI search engines are gaining heat due to their conversational output. Meta’s web crawler will scorch the internet to find information. The AI engine built on advanced LLMs will then convert into a contextual answer along with appropriately cited links to the original information source.
Meta has not responded to the requests made by major media houses around this topic, leaving the global users in a confused light. However, with majority of big tech players entering the AI search engine market and Google being the first to implement it, Meta may not stay behind for long.
OpenAI could not advance for two years as it was declined access to the internet by Google. After Microsoft’s takeover, OpenAI now uses the Bing search engine to gather the latest information. Gemini relies solely on Google, one of the biggest aggregators of information in the world. With Meta’s AI search engine in the making, the social media giant may be able to topple the dominant force and make space for its own search engine adoption.
