Latest Google Shopping Update Brings A Massive AI Upgrade

Date: October 16, 2024

Alphabet Inc. is bringing a big transformation in global users’ Google Shopping experience by rebuilding the platform from the ground up with AI.

Over a billion shoppers visit Google to research, virtually try on, and buy products through Google Shopping. The tech giant has noted the limitations of its shoppers’ community and made significant strides to enhance their experience by making it more advanced and seamless. One such transformative event has occurred with the latest Google Shopping update.

Google has completely transformed its Google Shopping platform, rebuilding it from the ground up and integrating AI into its core. Google’s development team has combined over 45 billion product listings in its shopping graph with Gemini models to provide a personalized home to every user. The update will be rolling out in the US over the next few weeks, starting today.

An AI-Upgraded Shopping Experience

Artificial Intelligence kicks in right from the moment a user visits Google Shopping, starting with showing the most relevant products to help speed up and simplify the research process. A new AI-engineered brief appears during the search process with the top things to consider and specific products that match the user’s exact needs.

For instance, a person looking for a winter jacket to keep them dry and warm in Alaska will get a brief recommendation explaining why a certain material works best and the products that fulfill such needs. The brief information helps the user understand important things before investing in a jacket. The robust AI engine sources products from across the web without brand bias unless the user mentions it.

Shoppers will also get customized categories to get a more organized view of all the products that match their requirements. It also provides relevant links to help users deep-dive into more information related to the recommendations.

Dynamic filters on Google Shopping are another addition that will play a critical role in enhancing their shopping efficiency. These filters also apply to the virtual try-on feature, powered by generative AI and AR shopping tools to provide a realistic preview, boosting purchase confidence.

Users will also get personalized results based on their historical shopping patterns, which they can easily turn on or off in settings. A new dedicated page is being introduced to help users explore all available deals along with price comparison, price insights and price tracking. The personalized Deals section is available with a click on the top right corner of the search page. The new features essentially transform Google into a massive virtual shopping mall where every online store is brought to one place.
