iOS 18.2 was set to release its stable version in December with major Artificial Intelligence capability updates but may be released much earlier.
Apple has been in the limelight for its delayed release of the much-awaited Apple Intelligence features. While the Cupertino-based tech giant made AI the core proposition for selling the iPhone 16 series, the actual rollout of iOS 18 lacked any of them. Apple released the first set of Apple Intelligence features with the iOS 18.1 update last week.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg noticed the company’s development behavior, which suggests that it may release the iOS 18.2 version much earlier than expected. iOS 18.2 is already available for beta testers enrolled in the Apple Beta Software Program. The beta version highlights major AI feature introductions, including Genmoji, Image Playground, visual intelligence, and ChatGPT integration in Siri.
According to Gurman, if the company does not face any unprecedented delays, the iOS 18.2 stable version may reach the global Apple user base by December 2nd, 2024. This prediction comes as Apple marches towards finished AI feature versions a couple of weeks ahead of the original schedule.
According to the company's standard rollout pattern, the iOS 17.2 stable version was released on December 11th, while the iOS 16.2 stable version was released on December 13th in their respective years.
For the Apple community of testers in India, the iOS 18.2 stable release may bring added support to run AI features on their local devices without choosing American English as the default language. For now, users in India have to switch to English (US) from English (India) to enable Apple Intelligence features on their local devices, including iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
Apple recently stated that its new update will support localized versions of English in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK. However, the Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Vietnamese versions of English will get the company’s support via the iOS 18.4 software update in April.
