Google Launches Gemini AI In India With 9 Native Languages

Date: June 19, 2024

Google has launched Gemini AI Chatbot in India along with Gemini 1.5 Pro, which, in its advanced version, supports 9 native Indian languages.

Google Gemini is one of the leading AI chatbots in the world, and it is widely used by individuals, startups, and enterprises alike. Its use cases cover a wide base, including marketing, data analysis, idea generation, report generation, etc. The tech giant has now launched an exclusive Gemini AI chatbot for its Indian user base, which comprises nearly 10% of the 313.9 million visitors on mobile and desktop combined.

The latest iteration of Gemini AI comes with multiple benefits specific to India, including native language support in Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. The AI chatbot will still support the default English language as it used to. Google Gemini AI assistant is available as an Android app for smartphone users in India. iPhone users will likely have to wait for some time to get this update in India.

The Gemini App for Android allows users to type, talk, and add images to receive the assistance they require. However, these features will be available only in the Google Gemini 1.5 Pro version and Google’s latest Next-Gen AI model. The free version will remain available in the common global format.

Another noteworthy feature of Google Gemini’s advanced version is that it now supports a 1 million token context window. This makes the AI chatbot’s advanced version the longest context-supporting consumer chatbot worldwide.

Amar Subramanya, Google’s Vice President of Engineering and Gemini Experiences, said in an official blog post, “With a massive 1 million token context window, Gemini Advanced now boasts the longest context of any widely available consumer chatbot worldwide. This allows it to process and understand vast amounts of information, from lengthy documents (up to 1,500 pages) and emails to even hours of video and extensive codebases in the near future.”

The AI chatbot will now be able to process multiple large documents. Users of both mobile and desktop chatbot versions can upload up to 1500 pages or summarize up to 100 emails. Gemini will also be integrated into Google Messages in the English language for Android devices with a minimum of 6GB RAM. Google Gemini is still powered by an LLM that is in the experimental stage, meaning that it is prone to make mistakes or experience fact-related dillusion, making it a common factor among all AI apps.
